Winter in coastal Larnaca region’s wetland is never complete without a visit from the distinctive flamingos and true to form they are back again this year.

According to the travel rating website Trip Advisor, Cyprus beaches rank among the best in Europe, with Protaras and Ayia Napa voted among the best 25 locations.

Once part of an ancient international harbor, it’s now an all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet for flamingos and other water birds.

A good percentage of Cypriots own a holiday home and thousands of foreign residents as well. Most of these homes are not occupied for a long period of time and are used occasionally during mainly the summer season.
